Video Interview Instructions
Applicants to the Master of Social Work (MSW) and Master of Social Policy (MSP) programs are required to complete a video interview as part of the admissions process.
This asynchronous interview is a meaningful way for our Admissions Committee to get to know you beyond your written application. It offers a space to share your goals, perspectives, and experiences in your own voice.
What is the Video Interview?
You will respond to pre-recorded questions using an online platform called Kira Talent. The interview is completed on your own time using a computer with a webcam and microphone. There are no “right” or “wrong” answers – this is your opportunity to share your authentic voice and experiences.
Kira Talent is fully accessible and compliant with WCAG 2.0 AA standards. If you anticipate barriers to completing the interview, please contact us at brownadmissions@wustl.edu as soon as possible after submitting your application to discuss alternate options.
How to Access and Complete the Interview:
- Your personalized interview link will be available in your WashU Graduate Admissions Portal after you submit your application.
- Register using the same name and email address you used in your application for admission.
- You’ll need a secure internet connection and a device with a camera, microphone, speakers, and keyboard (computer, tablet, or mobile).
- You may register first and complete the interview right away or return to it later.
- The interview must be completed by your application deadline (e.g., December 1 for Early Review, March 1 for Priority Review)
- Your application will not be considered complete until the interview is submitted.
What to Expect:
- The interview consists of four questions: four require video responses and one is written.
- You’ll be given a short prep period before each question and a set amount of time to respond.
- You will only have one opportunity to answer each question.
- The full interview takes approximately 30-40 minutes and must be completed in one sitting.
- Please review Kira’s applicant support materials and troubleshooting tips before you begin your interview.
- Technical support is available 24 hours a day through Kira. Click the “Need help?” in the platform or email support@kiratalent.com.
Practice Before You Begin:
- You can complete unlimited practice sessions before starting your actual interview.
- Practice questions help you become comfortable with the platform format and the process for submitting both oral and written responses.
- The actual interview questions will ask you about your motivation, experiences, and approach – similar to a professional interview.
Academic Integrity Warning
Your responses should reflect your own original thoughts and communication style. Do not use AI-generated text or other external tools to prepare your responses.

Interviews flagged for integrity concerns will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Confirmed violations may result in the dismissal of your application.
