Casey Limmer, MSW ’00, LCSW, Leverages Clinical Training and Experience in Her Private Practice 8/21/2015 Alumni; Social Work Share this Story: Casey Limmer, MSW '00, LCSW • Owner, Healing Insights • Adjunct Faculty, Brown School After years as a therapist at a domestic violence counseling agency, Casey Limmer launched a private practice specializing in treating clients with anxiety, depression, trauma issues or borderline personality disorder (BPD). “Clients with BPD have been categorically dismissed as untreatable by the mental health community, and I took that as a challenge,” Casey says. “I researched, I learned, and now I successfully treat clients with the ‘impossible’ diagnosis.” Casey is certified in several therapy modalities, including dialectical behavior therapy and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. She also leverages her training and experience to teach a number of clinical courses at the Brown School. “I get to teach the course that was most influential to me—Cognitive Behavior Therapy, which laid the foundation for my clinical work,” Casey says. Casey also supervises some of her former students as they seek licensure, mentoring them to become specialists in treating suicidal and self-injurious patients using DBT and other modalities. “I love providing mentorship to clinical students. It is invigorating to hear about their interests, foster their passions and support their growth.”
