Chiang receives 2026 Community Impact Award

Community Engagement

Mei-Hsi Chiang, assistant director of evaluation and dissemination at the Brown School Evaluation Center, has received the 2026 WashU Community Impact Award.

The award recognizes an employee who builds and sustains partnerships that benefit both WashU and the broader St. Louis community. Honorees are nominated by colleagues and selected by a universitywide committee. Recipients receive a personalized, engraved award.

“I’m deeply grateful and honored to receive this award,” Chiang said. “It reflects the collaborative work I’ve been fortunate to do with community partners across St. Louis. Their commitment to equitable outcomes for individuals and communities they serve is what makes this impact possible.”

Chiang earned her Master of Social Work from the Brown School in 2016. She joined the Evaluation Center at its launch in 2015 as a graduate assistant. After earning her MSW, she transitioned into the role of evaluation manager. Over the past decade, she has played a key role in expanding the reach and impact of the Evaluation Center, which provides client-driven evaluation services and training to nonprofit organizations, foundations, universities, and government agencies.

The center’s partners include Nine PBS, BJC HealthCare, WashU’s In St. Louis, For St. Louis initiative, and the Sam Fox School’s Office for Socially Engaged Practice.

In her role, Chiang leads projects focused on process and outcome evaluation, evaluation capacity, survey design, and both quantitative and qualitative data analysis. She also has experience in project management and visual communications.

Beyond project work, she co-leads workshops and certificate programs in data visualization and program evaluation through partner organizations and the Brown School’s professional development program. These sessions focus on practical, hands-on skills for working professionals and researchers.

Before joining the Evaluation Center, Chiang worked in Taiwan’s social services sector, supporting disadvantaged children and youth in urban areas and Indigenous communities.
