William (Bill) Effah is a physician-scientist with over a decade of experience traversing the clinical, field, and academic healthcare landscapes in the United States and internationally. Bill is particularly passionate about developing and deploying scalable, cost-effective, and innovative health strategies and technology tools to address the management of diseases in low-resource settings. During his tenure with the CDC in Malawi, Bill contributed significantly to the Division of Global HIV and TB. He played a pivotal role in developing and maintaining surveillance training programs and creating dashboards to track COVID-19 trends while enhancing HIV recency efforts in the country. More recently, he served as Senior Manager for International Research at the Institute of Informatics, Data Science, and Biostatistics at Washington University School of Medicine. In this role, he helped run a coordinating center for a large NIH-funded research initiative to integrate hypertension care into existing HIV care models across six African countries. Bill holds an MD and an MPH focusing on Global Health and Epidemiology from the Brown School, where he was recognized as a McDonnell Scholar and a Cahn Family Fellow. He is also a member of the Delta Omega National Honorary Society in Public Health. In addition to his academic and research contributions, Bill developed a suite of innovative educational tools for the City of St. Louis Department of Health and led a multidisciplinary team to revise the city’s Food Code. His work reflects a deep commitment to advancing health equity and improving health outcomes in under-resourced communities.
