Three Brown School faculty members—Ross Brownson, Enola Proctor, and Byron Powell—have been recognized on the Highly Cited Researchers 2024 list by Clarivate, an analytics company.

Established in 2001, the highly cited list identifies research and social scientists worldwide who demonstrate exceptional influence in their fields. Selected researchers have authored multiple highly cited papers, ranking in the top 1% by citations for their fields and publication year in the “Web of Science” scholarship database, a Clarivate tool, over the past decade.

Brownson, the Stephen H. and Susan U. Lipstein Distinguished Professor and director of the Prevention Research Center is an authority in chronic disease prevention and applied epidemiology. Proctor, a professor and leader in dissemination and implementation science, directs the Implementation Research Institute, which trains researchers in the field. Powell, associate professor and co-director of the Center for Mental Health Services Research (CMHSR), focuses his research on improving the quality of behavioral health and social services. All three have previously been recognized by Clarivate for the scope of their research.

According to Clarivate, “Of the world’s population of scientists and social scientists, Highly Cited Researchers are 1 in 1,000.”

The 2024 list features 6,636 individuals from 59 countries and regions, with 47 scholars from WashU earning a spot. For the full list of WashU honorees, visit the Clarivate website.
