Cultural Showcase Celebrates Brown School’s Diverse, Talented Community

Diversity; Students

On March 29, 2017, the International Student Association, in conjunction with the Global Program Office, presented the annual Cultural Showcase, a celebration of the diverse community at the Brown School.

The Cultural Showcase kicked off with a reception of various international foods and an exhibition of booths presenting students’ cultures. Students shared information, stories, and favorite objects —including pottery, games and pieces of art — from places such as Mexico, China, India, Nigeria, Ghana, Brazil, Singapore, Micronesia and the Pacific Islands, and more.

Tammy Orahood, Director of Global Programs at the Brown School, said that she was delighted by the turnout for the 2017 Cultural Showcase.

“We had a very strong participation by students, both for the poster sessions and the showcase itself, as well as a large audience to cheer them on,” she said. “It is always a delight to work with Brown School students to showcase the diversity and talent that makes up the Brown School.”

The evening closed out with a cultural showcase of individual and group performances including native and cultural dancing, poetry, singing, instrumental performances, and a presentation of cultural dress and fashion. See photos from the 2017 Cultural Showcase.
