Brown School to Study Nutrition, Activity-related Policy

Faculty; Public Health; Research

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has awarded a new grant to the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis and the University of Illinois at Chicago to examine nutrition and physical activity-related policy implementation efforts.

The research will be done by the Children’s Healthy Weight Hub, which is part of the Foundation’s Policies for Action Research Program, co-located at UIC’s Institute for Health Research and Policy and the Brown School. The Children’s Healthy Weight Hub is co-led by Dr. Amy Eyler, associate professor and assistant dean for public health at the Brown School; and Dr. Jamie F. Chriqui, professor of health policy and administration in the School of Public Health at UIC.

The project will also look at policy impacts on institutions and systems serving children and adolescents as well as on their diet and activity-related outcomes. Two primary studies will examine dietary changes in meals at child care centers and the impact of state- and local-level pay-to-play policies and laws nationwide on creating disparities in opportunities for engaging in school sports.
