Theresa Anasti, an assistant professor at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis, has been named to the 2026 class of Fellows of the Society of Social Work Research (SSWR).
Anasti is one of 21 social work researchers recognized this year for their contributions to the field. The fellowship honors members for their accomplishments, leadership and service to the society. Fellows are expected to serve as mentors and role models for emerging social work researchers and to help advance SSWR’s mission.
Anasti, an organizational scholar and social worker, studies how nonprofit and community-based organizations improve conditions for underrepresented populations. Her research focuses on organizations that serve stigmatized or criminalized groups, including sex workers, active drug users, and people experiencing homelessness.
The 2026 Fellows will be recognized at SSWR’s Annual Conference in January in Washington D.C. Anasti will also present several research projects during the conference; a full list can be found here.
