Tonya Edmond, professor at the Brown School, has been elected chair of the Faculty Senate Council for the 2025-26 academic year.

The Faculty Senate Council is the elected governing body of the larger Faculty Senate, which includes all university faculty. Comprised of 16 representatives from across WashU’s schools, the council serves as a liaison between faculty and administration, addressing a wide range of issues that affect campus life.

“I am deeply honored to serve as chair of the Faculty Senate Council and to represent the remarkable faculty across our university,” Edmond said. “This is a critical time in higher education, and I look forward to working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure that faculty voices are heard and valued in shaping the future of WashU.”

As chair, Edmond will represent the faculty on the University Council and the University Management Team. She also will serve as the faculty representative to the WashU Board of Trustees.

Edmond has held numerous leadership positions at WashU. She served as the co-interim dean of the Brown School for 19 months, prior to the appointment of Dorian Traube in August 2023. She has also served as the associate dean for academic affairs, associate dean for diversity, equity and inclusion, associate dean for social work and social policy and as a faculty fellow in the Office of the Provost.

Alexis Duncan, associate professor at the Brown School, is currently serving as one of the council’s at-large members. Her term runs through 2027.
