Amy Eyler, a professor and longtime faculty member at the Brown School, has been appointed associate dean for faculty affairs, effective July 1, announced Dorian Traube, the Neidorff Family and Centene Corporation Dean of the Brown School.
“In my time at the Brown School, I have come to rely on Amy’s excellent judgment, candor, flexibility, and personal warmth,” Traube said. “She was a key partner to me and Jeremy Goldbach during the last academic year, and no one is better prepared to help us meet the challenges ahead.”
Traube highlighted Eyler’s nearly 20 years of service at the Brown School, citing her “deep and sustained commitment to supporting her faculty colleagues through mentorship, advocacy, and strategic initiatives that enhance faculty success and well-being.”
In this new role, Eyler will oversee faculty development efforts, including hiring, promotion, and retirement processes.
“Faculty are the heart of our school’s mission,” Eyler said. “I want to foster an environment where faculty feel valued, supported, and empowered to do their best work.”
Eyler brings extensive leadership experience. She previously served as assistant dean for public health at the Brown School and as deputy director of the Prevention Research Center. She also spent seven years as a Gender Equity and Faculty Development Fellow in the Provost’s Office and chaired both the Association for Women Faculty and the Faculty Senate Council.
An expert on how policy and environmental factors influence chronic disease prevention, Eyler’s research focuses on promoting physical activity and healthy eating to reduce obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. She is the author of 129 peer-reviewed publications and three books, including Research Methods for Public Health. Currently, she co-leads the Nature and Health Alliance at WashU, a project focused on expanding knowledge around the health benefits of nature exposure.
Beyond campus, Eyler serves as chair of the executive board of Girls on the Run St. Louis.
