Brown School Faculty, Staff, Students Present at SSWR 2019 Annual Conference

Faculty; Public Health; Social Work; Students

Join the Brown School at the Society for Social Work and Social Policy annual conference in San Francisco on January 16-20, 2019. This year’s theme is Ending Gender Based, Family and Community Violence.

The Brown School will be represented in many exciting ways at the 2019 conference:

  • Faculty, staff, students and recent alumni will present or moderate over 55 sessions during this year’s meeting.
  • Professors Melissa Jonson-Reid and Brett Drake will receive the 2019 Society for Social Work and Research Book Award for “After the Cradle Falls: What Child Abuse Is, How We Respond to It, and What You can Do About It.” The awards presentation is Saturday, January 19 at 2:00 p.m. during the afternoon plenary session.
  • The Brown School will host its annual reception on Friday, January 18 at 8:00 p.m. in Union Square #13, and celebrate the induction of Professors Brett Drake, Michal Grinstein-Weiss and Fred Ssewamala as AASWSW fellows.

In addition to the highlighted presentations listed below, the Brown School will support other notable featured speakers:

  • Craig Winston LeCroy will present at the Aaron Rosen Lecture, which was established by SSWR in conjunction with the Brown School at Washington University. LeCroy, communitas professor of social work at Arizona State University in Tucson, focuses his research on home visitation services, social competence in adolescence, and evidence-based practice for social work.
  • Noted civil rights activist Angela Davis is the speaker at the Presidential Plenary; the event is co-sponsored by the Brown School. Davis, distinguished professor emerita of history and consciousness at the University of California at Santa Cruz, has written nine books on social justice and her work.

The annual Brown School reception will take place Friday, January 18 at 8:00 p.m. in Union Square #13 at the Hilton San Francisco. Contact Marissa Hardwrict at hardwrictm@wustl.edu with any questions.

Please consult the listings below to explore the breadth of ways to connect with Brown School staff, faculty and students.  All sessions will be taking place in the Hilton San Francisco Union Square, 333 O’Farrell St, San Francisco, CA 94102.
