Brown School Dean Mary McKay has announced that Jason Green, AB ’03, co-founder of the for-purpose technology company SkillSmart, will speak at the 2017 Brown School Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, May 18. The ceremony will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Field House, within the Athletic Complex of Washington University in St. Louis.

A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis as well as Yale Law School, Green has dedicated his professional life to understanding and implementing empowerment strategies for individuals and communities. Before founding SkillSmart, Green was the national voter registration director for the Obama for America reelection campaign, followed by four years of service to President Barrack Obama as special assistant and associate counsel to the President.

While working in the White House, Green advised the President and senior staff on legal, economic and domestic policy matters. This exposure to national unemployment rates, policy responses and the impact on the economy inspired the SkillSmart platform.

Founded in 2013, SkillSmart is a skills-based, tech-enabled platform that helps growing organizations and industries find the talent they need, matching job seekers to employment opportunities based on skills and abilities. The mission of SkillSmart is to end the skills gap that employers face in filling various roles. Green currently serves as senior vice president and general counsel to SkillSmart.

Green’s passion for empowerment also guides his service on the advisory boards of Per Scholas, the South Africa International Washington Program, and Heritage Montgomery, as well as his leadership as co-chair of a regional task force addressing cybersecurity employment.

“As an entrepreneur, lawyer and political strategist, Jason Green has spent his career empowering individuals and communities,” said Mary M. McKay, Neidorff Family and Centene Corporation Dean of the Brown School.

“His experience in public service, his innovative thought leadership and his commitment to helping all individuals achieve their full potential will serve as an inspiring platform for our graduates,” McKay said. “We are incredibly honored to have someone whose experience bridges policy and innovation join us for commencement.”

A livestream of the Brown School Recognition Ceremony will be available online the night of the event.
