“A Great Privilege” Edward F. Lawlor concludes 12 years as dean of the Brown School 5/26/2016 Faculty Share this Story: This year’s commencement recessional ushered out the final class of Brown School graduates under the leadership of Dean Edward F. Lawlor. After 12 years as dean, he has left an indelible mark on the School as well as the university. We have benefited from his ability to think big, bring the right people together and unite them as one team—a team dedicated to bringing about positive change to individuals, the community and the world. “Our work is such a great privilege, and the key element to success is how good our teammates are,” said Lawlor. “This whole experience has meant being part of a gigantic family. I believe our greatest asset—it is in many ways intangible and not quantifiable—is our school’s sense of community.” Lawlor, the William E. Gordon Distinguished Professor, will officially end his deanship on June 30, 2016. Dean Mary McKernan McKay begins her tenure July 1.
