Sarah Gehlert Appointed to OBSSR Expert Panel

​​​Following a nomination from the Council for Social Work Education (CSWE), Dr. Sar​ah Gehlert​​ has been invited to join the strategic planning expert panel for the Office of Behavioral and Social Science Research (OBSSR)​ of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Gehlert, the E. Desmond Lee Professor of Racial and Ethnic Diversity at the Brown School and in the Department of Surgery of the School of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis, will assist in determining the future directions of health-related behavioral and social sciences and how OBSSR can facilitate advances across NIH units.

CSWE nominated Gehlert for her dedication to social work education, research and diverse interprofessional and interdisciplinary experiences. Gehlert joined the Brown School in 2009 from the University of Chicago. She will advise on the OBSSR strategic plan through the fiscal year 2020.

OBSSR is a leader in setting priorities for behavioral and social sciences research. In addition, they support funding opportunities that assist in reducing health disparities, improving patient involvement care programs, and enhancing mobile health technologies.
